More and more of both genders today have a common misconception that they are the same and can be used either way. But what really is the difference? And how do we know which one to use and which one is better? Thus comes the rivalry of the Slacks vs. the Dress Pants.
They Are Differents
Though both pants may look similar and can vary in colors, it still has its own characteristics. Not to be mistaken, slacks and dress passed are terms used differently in different parts of the world. Let’s say in Great Britain, the term slacks are not used for clothing wear, they would rather use trousers instead compared to the States, they use the term slacks for a type of pants.
Ultimately, the two clothing are totally different, their fabric, cut and fitting are the defining factors on which is which. Men’s slacks are considered to be the less formal type. The material is thicker than the other and it’s most likely to be loosely fitted. We often also hear it being called as casual trousers. Lastly, slacks should never be paired with any suit whatsoever.
The Dress Pants
The Dress Pants on the other hand, is made out of material that is usually more delicate and can sometimes require dry cleaning. Because of the fabric the pants are built in such a way that it fits the lower part of the body accurately with the desired draping. These types of pants are usually worn in formal gatherings paired with glossy shoes or in offices that requires the personnel to be in business wear. Another factor to consider with dress pants is whether you will go with the pleated on or the flat one, the option of cuff or no cuff and slim fit or wide leg pants.
Whichever you wear, it is important to keep in mind to wear either of the pants in the most appropriate time and place. One pant is not better than the other for the reason that they are not the same.
Knowing the difference between the two is significant for you to be able to exude the impression you would like to make. Also, it is considered disrespectful to go to a place under dress and over dressed.
