The Fashion For Men – In a time of such focus on fashion, appearance, and the existence of the “metrosexual” man, men’s personal grooming habits are of utmost importance.
Unfortunately, not all men are as aware of, or perhaps as focused on, their grooming as they should to be. Not only this make men less desirable in the workplace, but it can also impact personal relationships. Therefore, it is high time we recognize some of men’s grooming mistakes.
You smell like..
Perhaps the most obvious and discussed mistake is wearing too much cologne. While we all agree a man should be pleasant to the olfactory sense, an overwhelming scent is never a good idea.
If the coworker in the neighboring cubicle tends to sneeze, make faces, or eventually requests the cube on the opposite end of the office, it may be time to rethink the number of spritzes applied in the morning. Aim for no more than two or three spritzes to the wrist or behind the neck.
Spraying one’s clothes instead is also a good option; perhaps two short bursts to the inside of one’s jacket, which is enough to deliver a light scent as you pass others, without making them cringe.
Hair and Nail
A man’s hair can be an absolute asset to his overall appearance. However, if one waits too long between haircuts, a luxurious head of hair can quickly become raggedy and diminish one’s looks. Finding a reputable salon experienced in, or catering exclusively to men, can do wonders for a man’s looks. Also, when it comes to hair product, a little bit goes a long way. Nobody appreciates the look or feel of crunchy hair. Perhaps if that much product is needed to keep a style in place, it is time for a new look.
While on the topic of hair, it is also imperative to keep body hair under control. Hair does have a place on a man’s body, but the back is not that place. Gentleman, for those of you who have been cursed with a hairy back, and yes, it is a curse, laser hair removal is an excellent option.
It will take a few appointments, and it can be costly, but it will be well worth it when the time comes to remove your shirt either at the beach, or simply at home in the presence of your partner.
For those who would rather not spend the money on relatively high priced treatments, the old standby of waxing, though unpleasant, is a fine option. Incidentally, keeping nose hair trimmed and out of sight requires far less dedication, and is of equal importance. A store bought nose hair trimmer is both affordable and appreciated. (Do not try to pluck nose hairs, as this is both painful and potentially dangerous.)
Finally, another important mistake is allowing fingernails and toenails to grow out of control, or become stained. Both are a representation of a man’s overall grooming habits.
A man sporting long or unkempt fingernails is a turnoff, as it makes one wonder: if he does not take care of something so simple as his fingernails, where else is he lacking in hygiene? And, while men may think toenail care is not worth their time, think again. As soon as shoes and socks are removed, someone is bound to see them. Toes are a reflection of our feet, and if our toenails are not in good shape, it is likely foot hygiene is also being neglected.
In order to avoid these mistakes, biweekly manicures and pedicures are highly recommended. It is very common to see men getting both these days, and it is greatly appreciated by a man’s partner. It is a nice way to spend an afternoon together, and the results are priceless.
